About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the art of needling the body to produce healing. There are records documenting the existence of traditional acupuncture treatment in China dating back five thousand years. It was in early 1800’s when traditional acupuncture treatments made an appearance in the Western World. Chinese Medicine is no longer confined to locations such as Shanghai or Singapore. It is now international.

In the past many Westerners, including doctors, had strange notions about Chinese medicine. If a patient was cured by means of herbs or acupuncture they saw only two possible explanations – a placebo or it was an accident.

There are major differences between the Western medicine and Chinese Medicine. For example in patients with stomach pain ad peptic ulcer disease, diagnosed with gastroscopy (Western medicine) can have up to six different patterns and treatment options according to Chinese medicine.

Stimulations of different acupuncture points with fine needles or laser beams can influence the energy flow through the body and help different problems such as:

There is also evidence of positive effect of acupuncture during "In vitro" fertilization or treatment of facial wrinkles for example.

Generally there are no side effects from acupuncture. In pregnancy the use of 2 or 3 acupuncture points may be contraindicated. Patients with fear of needling or children can also benefit from acupuncture treatment with low energy laser, which is absolutely painless and needle free.
